the crib...a comedy of errors

So this past Saturday Meggan and I took on the wonderful adventure of putting our crib together. Now not to toot my own horn (honk honk) but I'm a pretty good guy when it comes to "assembly required" projects. I've put together tables, desks, bookshelves, curio cabinets, tv stands and many other projects over the years growing up with my father...yet I might as well have been following the directions to make an atomic bomb...this thing was crazy!

Not only was it fun trying to follow the directions, the pictures could have been made by the geico caveman on a cave wall somewhere. To top it all off, none of the parts had a sticker on them labeling them A, B, C, etc. So let the guessing games begin. And then doing this project together, yes as special as it is being our first crib, first child, first nursery to set up, it really is a great test of any married couples communication skills. I'm amazed that "putting the crib together" isn't right next to "irreconcilable differences" as a reason why courts will allow a divorce.

All kidding aside we actually did really well putting it all together. Even with the drop down front side panel having to be installed a very specific way, we still got it all together. Then we got to the last step. We had this entire crib set up correctly and all we had to do was put the sliders on the drawer underneath the crib and slide it into place. Interestingly enough that was all the directions said too...no kidding..."attached gliders to side of drawer and slide into place." Don't even ask about the picture for this last step...my cats make better drawings in their litter boxes. Three attempts later, we finally had the gliders attached properly and were able to slide the drawer in place.

Beautiful white and cocoa crib = shower gift from parents-in-law and grandparents-in-law
2 hours on a saturday = 1 hour longer than I thought it would take
2 = number of times i stepped on the extra screw laying on the nursery floor
Memories I'll cherish for the rest of my life = PRICELESS

Pictures of the nursery to be posted next week, check back soon!

Cheers,
~Keith
